The Inconspicuous Predator

A deer drinking at a stream,
The shuffling in the bushes,
A cold stare.

The whistling gust,
Mighty-hungry breath,
A bloody lust.

The bushes shook,
A pathetic shriek,
The deer’s hungry look,

A pounce, a leap,
The prey at his feet,
The bloody streams – into the water creep.
